Community Nutrition Grant Recipient:
Students Run Oakland (SRO)
BADA is proud to present the $750 grant to Students Run Oakland
(SRO) to be used for their Food for Thought program. This
nutrition program will provide SRO participants with the opportunity
to participate in nutrition workshops as part of their curriculum
working towards completion of the LA Marathon.
SRO’s mission is to improve the overall health of young people
through structured physical fitness training; mentoring; nutrition
and health education. SRO uses the challenge of training for a
marathon to help students develop long-term goals, improve their
health, and overcome obstacles by providing structured,
non-competitive physical fitness training in a safe and positive
environment. Through training and mentoring, SRO builds
confidence, resiliency, and reinforces the values of commitment and
hard work. Students then can draw on these values for
achievement in academics and other areas throughout their lives.
