Registered Dietitian Consultant Needed
for Re-designing School Lunches > posted
7.22.10 Carden Conejo school is a small
private school located in Westlake Village, CA.
We enroll students in Pre-School (3 yrs old)
through 8th grade. Our enrollment is about
230 students; 60 in our lower school (3 & 4 yr
olds) and 170 in our upper school (Kindergarten
- 8th).
Each school day we offer an
optional lunch choice for our students.
These daily lunch choices are pre-determined
before the beginning of the month and sent by
calendar to the families. The daily
lunches are purchased from local fast-food
vendors: Mondays from Popeye's, Tuesdays from
Domino's Pizza, Wednesdays from Togo's,
Thursdays from Pickup Stix, and Fridays from
either Gelson's or Taco Bell. These
vendors provide pre-packaged student lunches to
us for about $3.00 each.
Those students
choosing the school lunch for the day notify
their teacher during morning attendance.
The office staff totals up the number of lunches
to order and calls the vendor by 9:30 AM.
The vendor delivers the lunches to us by 11:30
AM for hand-out to the students. We
normally order as few as 25 lunches (cheese
burrito from Taco Bell) to as many as 110
lunches (cheese pizza from Domino's).
We
are interested in redesigning our lunches to
provide healthier and more nutritious options.
We believe that will involve contracting with
one or more small food service companies (local
caterers?) to cook and deliver daily lunches.
We have spoken to one caterer about this.
I think we need to consult with a professional
who specializes in nutrition for school-age
children to help us design the new menu for the
school lunches.

Seeking: Clinical Rotation > posted
7.22.10 My name is Lauren DiCicco. I'm
a University of Delaware graduate and distance
dietetic intern. I will be doing my
dietetic internship out here in the LA/Ventura
County area, but have yet to find a site for my
clinical rotation. I have called nearly
every hospital in the area for 2 months with no
luck. Sandy Curwood at Ventura County
School District referred me to you.
If
there is any way that you could help me to find
a clinical site or refer an RD to me, I would
greatly appreciate it! I wouldn't need to
do my rotation until January, so it wouldn't be
a huge rush for the RD at the site. I want
this internship more than anything and do not
take this opportunity for granted. It
means everything to me. Again, I would
appreciate if there is anything at all that you
could do in helping me to become a future
dietitian.

Registered
Dietitian - Noor Foundation > posted
05.25.10 My name is Kelly Enfantino, and I am
a student at Cal Poly. I am contacting you
about a clinic that is opening up in SLO, that
is being run by a local physician, Dr.
Nooristani. I don't know if you have heard
about it yet, but the goal of the clinic is to
provide primary health care to the under or
noninsured. The reason I am contacting
you, is because we are looking for in the area
that would be interested in volunteering their
time once or twice a month to provide nutrition
services. This clinic is run completely on
a volunteer basis, and there are many physicians
and specialists that are volunteering their time
to make this clinic a reality. It is
really amazing to see the community come
together, and any help is greatly appreciated.
If you or any RD's you know would like to check
out the Website,
