PRESIDENT :: Amanda Sauceda, MS, RD
Amanda Sauceda first came on to the Orange District board as the Student Representative. She has worked her way from Student Rep to Communications and now as President. Amanda is currently a full-time lecturer at California State University, Long Beach. She enjoys teaching and mentoring students. With a strong interest in technology and food allergies/intolerances she hopes to do more research in the field. She also loves to read, try new foods, and play with her dog.

Yvonne completed her dietetic internship at VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare Center and is currently pursuing her graduate degree in Nutritional Science at CSULB. She is working as a clinical dietitian in Garden Grove and at an outpatient facility. Yvonne previously served as Membership Chair for the past several years, but looks forward to organizing events and meetings for the members of Orange District as President-Elect! She also has a small dog that she loves to take on walks, hiking trips, and the beach.

Katy Dyer has spent the majority of her career specializing in weight and health management. She counsels children and their families on healthy eating habits and feeding dynamics. Additionally, she advises firefighters on strategies for improving their diets through the Santa Ana College Fire Technology department. Katy is an advocate of preventative medicine and believes it can start in the kitchen, where she can often be found. In 2009, Katy attended Harvard School of Public Health's "Healthy Kitchens, Healthy Lives" conference at the Culinary Institute in Napa Valley. Also, Katy holds the Certificate of Training in Adult Weight Management and the Certificate of Training in Childhood and Adolescent Weight Management. In 2012, she completed the Intuitive Eating PRO 2.0 workshop. Katy received a B.S. in Dietetics at Simmons College in Boston, Massachusetts and completed her dietetic internship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Katy is an active member of the Sports Cardiovascular and Wellness practice group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and attended three symposiums. Katy’s non-work world is filled with dog walks, wedding planning, cookbooks and running.

SECRETARY :: Hector Vasquez, Jr.
Hector earned his Bachelor of Science in Biological Anthropology at the University of California at Davis. He recently completed the dietetic internship at CSU Long Beach and is currently working on his master thesis. He grew up bilingual in English and Spanish and enjoys working with the diverse communities that call Southern California home. Most recently, he worked on a USDA grant project as a Graduate Research Fellow educating the Latino population on the importance of eating healthily and engaging in physical activity. When Hector is not flooded with work, he enjoys traveling (both domestically and abroad) and hiking. Some of the countries he has visited include Tunisia, Peru, Japan, France, Spain, Switzerland, etc.

TREASURER :: Jessica Slaton, MS, RD
Jessica completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Nutrition from California State University, Long Beach. She is currently working as Chief Clinical Dietitian at Anaheim Regional Medical Center and is enjoying her management role while still fulfilling her love of clinical nutrition since she is considered a ‘working manager’. Simultaneously, Jessica also is an adjunct faculty member at Chapman University where she teaches an introductory nutrition course. Aside from nutrition, Jessica’s hobbies include participating in triathlons, half marathons (as she hopes to complete the OC cities challenge in February 2015), cycling, yoga, and aside from all the activites watching FOOTBALL and rooting for the COLTS is an enjoyable pastime with friends and family.

Monica is a consultant with San Diego American Indian Health Clinic, working with the Special Diabetes Program for Indians, specializing in the cultural relevance of nutrition as part of optimum health for this special population. She also serves as the Project Manager for developing the clinic as a patient centered medical home (PCMH) and for Accreditation by AAAHC. She also provides clinical services to the County’s DPSNF and works with Sharp Health Care in weight management and smoking cessation. Monica served as President of the San Diego Dietetic Association for two terms (which also included two terms as Pres-Elect) and was the VP of Member Council for CDA for three years. This is her second year of a three year term as delegate for the Orange District Dietetic Association. On weekends and evenings you will find her connecting with friends and family, training for marathons (and ½ marathons), dancing, and relaxing with her dog, Drummer.

Kelsey completed her dietetic internship at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). She is currently pursuing her masters in Nutritional Science at CSULB at plans on graduating in 2015. This is Kelsey’s first year on the board and is looking forward to advancing our profession through public policy. Kelsey enjoys cooking, baking, reading, spending time with her friends and family, and being outdoors.

This is Kelsey’s first year on the board and is looking forward to advancing our profession through public policy. Kelsey enjoys cooking, baking, reading, spending time with her friends and family, and being outdoors.

Sarah obtained her Bachelors of Science in Food and Nutrition at San Diego State University and completed a distance dietetic internship in San Diego. Currently she is working in clinical nutrition and wellness. She enjoys staying active, making healthy food and having fun with friends and family.

Sara recently completed her DPD coursework at California State University of Long Beach and is currently working on her dietetic internship at California Polytechnic University of Pomona. Sara also has a BA in Sociology from Cal Poly Pomona and has spent the last 8 years working as a marketing professional. This is Sara’s second year on the board and she is looking forward to contributing her marketing knowledge to the Orange District CDA group as the communication co-chair. In her spare time Sara likes to run, cook, travel, and talk about food.

Michelle offers nutrition house calls through her private practice, Go Wellness, with the ultimate goal of helping people eat well, move well, and live well. Michelle also shares her passion for nutrition and wellness through her blog and Facebook page. She also serves on the Social Media Committee for the California Dietetic Association and as Social Media Associate for Dietitians in Integrative and Functional Medicine. Michelle enjoys helping members and non-members connect with one another through her role as Communications Co-Chair.

MEMBERSHIP CHAIR :: Veronica Breedlove, DI
Veronica received her Bachelors Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from CSULB. She is currently a masters student in Nutritional Science at CSULB and will begin her dietetic internship there in August 2014. This is Veronica’s first year on the board as well as a member and is very exciting to learn how she can help plan events and be involved in helping the profession of dietetics grow. Veronica is always trying to find new and creative ways to stay active and travel.

NiNicole recently completed her dietetic internship at California State University, Long Beach and is currently pursuing her MS in Nutritional Science. She is working at Eat Freely Nutrition in Long Beach, where she provides both individual and group counseling. Nicole is a long time martial artist, sports nut and professional dog lover. She is new to the CDA-OD Executive Board and is excited to get started!

Having a father with hypertension piqued Alicia’s interest in nutrition and is the reason why she became an RD. She is President of Healthy U and is the employee of the month every month. That is one of the perks of her being self-employed. It’s her job and her pleasure to promote health in people of all ages. Alicia is the personal chef to her two children and also helps her students at a local community college comprehend the value of nutrition throughout the lifecycle. Nicole is currently working on her Bachelors Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from CSULB. She will be graduating a in May of 2015. This is her first year and the board and is excited to be working and learning with professionals and other students in the field of nutrition. She loves to spend time with her family, find and cook new recipes, and be outdoors as much as she can.

Cortney is in her final year at CSU, Long Beach and will be graduating May 2015 with her Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. She is currently holding the position of Treasurer in the CSULB club Students Active in Community Health. For the past two years, Cortney has worked at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in the the Food Service Department, as a food service worker and diet aid. In addition to her schooling and work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, working out, and catching up on her favorite TV shows.

Sangeeta has doctorate in Nutritional Biochemistry. After staying home to raise 2 sons, she went back to school and completed her DPD from Cal Poly Pomona and Dietetic Internship from Utah State University Distance dietetic program. She does not consider Nutrition and Dietetics as profession but it’s her passion. Sangeeta is actively involved in her children’s school and constantly deliver nutrition presentations. She also serves as room parent and yearbook coordinator at school. She is also a soccer mom. As a speaker Bureau coordinator, her goal is to reach out the community and extent helping hand in nutritional needs of the people and also make Orange district Dietetic association more visible in community.

Kristin is currently enrolled in a combined MS in Nutritional Science and Dietetic Internship program at CSU, Long Beach where she recently completed her BS in Dietetics and Food Administration. Prior to working to become a Registered Dietitian, Kristin worked in marketing after earning a BS in Business Administration at University of Southern California. She has volunteered her time to Dietitians of Orange County and Meals on Wheels of Irvine and Long Beach, and is also a member of Student Dietetic Association and Students Active in Community Health at CSULB. In her spare time, Kristin enjoys going to the beach, traveling, trying new restaurants, and attending football games and concerts.

Sarah earned her Bachelor degree in Nutrition and Dietetics during Spring 2013 at CSU, Long Beach (CSULB). She is currently enrolled in a 2-year graduate program at CSULB that combines the Masters in Nutritional Science program with a dietetic internship. For several years Sarah worked as a Program Assistant and nutrition educator for Stone Soup Childcare Programs and the Little Lake School District. She is currently contracted as a freelance writer of correspondence courses (educational material) that comply with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Creditable Foods Guide for Wildwood Resources, a child and adult care food program (CACFP). As a writer for Wildwood, Sarah recently spoke at Wildwood’s annual conference for childcare providers. She is also a founder, producer and host of Food-ology Radio (Facebook page), a talk show broadcasted by KBeach Radio on www.kbeach.org. In her spare time Sarah enjoys cooking, growing food, practicing yoga, swimming, playing disc golf and sharing her enthusiasm for health and nutrition (blog).
Megan is finishing her Bachelor Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics at CSU Long Beach. She plans to attend a dietetic internship after graduation. This is Megan’s first year on the CDA-OD Board, and she is extremely excited to join the team, and provide great food for our meetings! Megan lives in South Orange County and enjoys running on the many trails in the area.

Brittney attended CSU Chico in Northern California to earn her BS in Nutrition & Food Sciences, Dietetics. She then traveled down south to complete her dietetic internship through CSU Long Beach, and is currently completing her MS in Nutritional Science. With a passion for geriatric nutrition, Brittney teaches nutrition classes for older adults through a local community college. She is excited to serve her first year on the CDA-OD Board & to become more involved! Brittney loves to travel, practice yoga, run half marathons, bake and spend time with her fabulous family and friends.

Meg completed the DTR program at Orange Coast College in 2005. She has been employed as a clinical tech at Saddleback Memorialcare Hospital ever since. Working in dietetics keeps her in the field she loves- food and nutrition. Meg has been very fortunate to work with a group of great dieticians who have been her mentors and provided her many learning opportunities. In addition to working in the acute care setting, Meg also teaches a class to the community on the role of diet in “The Heart Failure Series”, through Saddleback. Other interests include being outdoors, walking, hiking, spending time with family, 2 kitties, and her church family. This is her first year on the board and she looks forward to getting more DTRs involved.

Andrea is completing her Masters in Nutritional Science at CSU, Long Beach. She plans to finish her DPD coursework this year to apply for Dietetic Internships. Prior to Long Beach, Andrea received her BA from UC Santa Barbara in Communication with an emphasis in Technology Entrepreneurship. After working in the software sales industry for a few years, Andrea decided to follow her passions for healthy living and helping people. Andrea is also an AND Liaison for the Student Dietetic Association at CSULB. She loves to snowboard, travel and see live music in her free time.

Joey Shanahan is in his final year at Long Beach State and will be graduating in May with his Bachelors Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. He is looking forward to attending a Dietetic Internship and hopefully a Masters Degree combined program. Joey is the Volunteer Coordinator for the CDA-OD. He is looking forward to the leadership qualities he can gain from volunteering on the board as well as the wisdom he can gain from the current professionals. Joey also is very interested in Sports Nutrition.

STUDENT LIAISON :: Francis Dizon
Francis is currently working towards his Bachelor’s Degree at CSULB. He is expected to graduate in the spring and hopes to start a dietetic internship the following fall. This is his first year with the CDA as regular member and board member, and is excited to become more involved with other local nutrition enthusiasts. Francis enjoys nutrition and wellness and is excited about upcoming career opportunities in the field. In his free time, Francis enjoys spending time with family and friends, keeping physically active, and exploring film and television.

My name is Christine Padilla and I am a volunteer position at CDA Orange District Student Representative for California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, where I am pursuing my undergraduate degree in Food and Nutrition, with the option in Dietetics. My plan is to continue my education with a masters degree in Public Health and work in the field of community nutrition. I am also a board member of FN Forum at Cal Poly Pomona, a student organization in the Food and Nutrition Department. As student representative I hope to encourage students to become more involved with CDA Orange District and achieve a better understanding of the field. When I am not at school or studying I enjoy spending quality time with my son, going to the beach, and taking spare of the moment trips to Disneyland.

I earned both my BS and MS from California State University, Long Beach, in Nutrition, Dietetics, and foodservice management and Exercise Physiology and Nutrition respectively; I also completed the DI at CSULB. Currently I am a Lecturer at California State University, Long Beach and serve as Coordinator for both the Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) and the Individualized Supervised Practice Pathways Internship (ISPP). In addition I work as a Contract Dietitian under Dietitians of Orange County, focusing on Acute and home Heath as well as working per diem with Anaheim Regional Medical Center. I hope to continue to foster the growth of up-and-coming dietitians and hope to finish the requirements of the CHES certification soon. In my spare time I play beach volleyball, run 1/2 marathons, attend music festivals (New Orleans Jazz Fest is a favorite), travel, and explore local eateries with my amazing friends.

My name is Ladan Tehrani and I am a full time graduate student at California State University Long Beach where I am earning my Master’s degree in Nutritional Science. In addition, I am also completing the didactic program in dietetics to become a Registered Dietitian. I earned my bachelor's degree from Chapman University in 2009 and have since rededicated myself to continuing my education in the field I am most passionate about. I love helping people and food and I hope to build a fulfilling career that helps people find health and happiness. In my spare time I love traveling, reading, and cooking.

Vallary earned her BA in communications from the University of California, San Diego and worked in the entertainment industry for years prior to finding her passion for nutrition and dietetics. She is currently a dietetic intern at Utah State University and a graduate student of nutrition and dietetics at California State University, Long Beach. She loves to spend time with her family on their small farm and enjoys trying new vegetarian restaurants.

Christi Coy, MS, RD is the current Education Chair for CDA-OD. She has previously held the positions of President and Nominating Committee Co-Chair. She serves as Associate Faculty at Saddleback College, teaching two classes each semester. She has over fourteen years of dietetics experience including: three years as dietitian case manager in a metabolic clinic; nine experience in nutrition education; seven each in facilitating weight management groups and in coordinating and implementing nutrition clinical trials. She was the Dietitian Case Manager for the UCI Metabolic Clinic in the Department of Pediatrics. In her spare time, she enjoys vacationing at Disney World with her family.

I have been a member of CDA-OD since its inception in 1962. The District became a State affiliated District in 1966 when the state began encouraging District to establish a method in which ways members might receive continuing education. One of the members began a history book which I continued after her retirement. I also was the first By-Laws Chair and one year I was asked by the state association to encourage the other state districts to upgrade their by-laws. Lydia Blecksmith and I began the study group to help members to obtain credits to fulfill their obligations for continuing education in 1971. I was president of Orange District for the year 1983.

CO-HISTORIAN :: Olivia Ostunio
Currently Olivia is working on her Bachelors Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from CSU Long Beach and will be graduating May 2015. This is her first year on the board and is excited to join a nonprofit organization that gives her the opportunity to meet professionals and fellow students in her field of studies. For the past year Olivia has had the opportunity to volunteer at the Stradford House, where she plays games and does hands on activities that teach the students about Nutrient and Science, while getting them excited about what they are learning. Olivia loves to explore, whether its here in California finding fun activities or traveling around the world she loves learning about different cultures and new foods.
