Your Link to Nutrition and Health...California Dietetic Association (CDA) is a not-for-profit voluntary membership association of approximately 6500 Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RD/RDNs), Dietetic Technicians Registered (DTRs), and nutrition students dedicated to healthy lifestyles through food decisions and the delivery of effective food and nutrition services by qualified dietetic professionals and association members.
The primary purpose of the CDA is to oversee and protect the regulation and scope of practice of RD/RDNs and DTRs in California; support the roles in the delivery of healthcare in California; and to ensure and promote informed food decisions by consumers.
Registered Dietitian/Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDs) are highly educated and trained health professionals who provide nutrition education
and dietetic services. All RD/RDNs have at the minimum a Bachelor’s degree, have completed a qualifying internship, passed a national registration
examination, and complete ongoing continuing education. RD/RDNs (Dietitians)
work in health promotion, prevention and treatment of disease through the practice of evidence-based medical nutrition therapy. Dietitians practice in
hospitals, HMOs, outpatient clinics, business and industry, community and public health settings, culinary and food service, schools, academia,
scientific research, in private practice and other health care settings. The RD/RDN is recognized in Medicare regulations as qualified to provide and be
reimbursed for medical nutrition therapy for diabetes and renal disease.
