For Our Members :: CDA Districts :: Los Angeles District :: Career Guidance Program

The Los Angeles District (LAD) of the California Dietetic Association (CDA) offers the Career Guidance Program to dietetic professionals and dietetic students who are members of LAD.  The goal of the program is to provide LAD members with professional career guidance by matching individuals seeking advice with dietetic professionals willing to be advisors in their professional areas of interest.  It is up to matched advisors and LAD members to determine the nature of their professional relationship, e.g., the frequency and method of their communications.  This program is ongoing, and you can apply throughout the year at any time.  The program also maintains the LAD informational interview contact list, which consists of dietetic professionals willing to speak to others about their occupation and background.

Become an Advisor
As an Advisor, you can help other LAD members explore their career interests and provide advice based on your own experiences in your field of dietetics.  You have the option of being available for informational interviews or for a longer-term career guidance relationship with an
LAD member seeking career advice.  It is up to you how much a time commitment you would like to put in as an Advisor.

If you are interested in becoming an Advisor, please download and complete the Advisor form.  Return the completed form by
e-mail or mail to: Colleen Ross, MS, RD at colleen.ross@va.gov or 24362 Valley St., Newhall, CA 91321; work phone: 310.268.3120.

If there are LAD members who are interested in informational interviews or a longer-term career guidance relationship, the LAD Career Guidance Program Chair will contact the Advisor.  The LAD member will be provided contact information and it is their responsibility to contact the Advisor.  The final decision for any match will be the result of a mutual agreement between the Advisor and the LAD member seeking career guidance.  CDA cannot assume any cost related to these activities.  The cost of telephone calls or other expenses will be assumed by the individuals involved.

Need Career Guidance?
Perhaps you’re a student exploring your future career options in dietetics, or maybe you’ve been a professional for years and are looking for contacts in a different area of dietetics.  In either case, an advisor can assist you with reshaping your professional career plans and/or developing new career goals.  A good start is to review “The Helping Hand” and self-evaluation work sheets available on the CDA Website: www.dietitian.org (Professional Mentoring page).

If you are interested in making a connection with an Advisor, please download and complete the Career Guidance form.  Return the completed form by e-mail or mail to: Colleen Ross, MS, RD at colleen.ross@va.gov or 24362 Valley St., Newhall, CA 91321; work phone: 310.268.3120.

After receiving your completed form, the District Career Guidance Program Chair makes every effort to identify potential Advisor(s) and provide you with their contact information.  It is the responsibility of the LAD member to contact the Advisor(s).  The final decision for any match will be the result of a mutual agreement between the Advisor and the LAD member seeking career guidance.  CDA cannot assume any cost related to these activities.  The cost of telephone calls or other expenses will be assumed by the individuals involved.
