    Per Diem Dietitian - Kaiser Permanente

    Position Summary:
    This position is a per diem position covering for full time inpatient and outpatient staff at multiple locations in San Diego County.
    This position collaborates with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social medicine practitioners, and other care team members in the provision of Medical Nutritional Therapy (MNT) across the continuum of inpatients to outpatient care; conducts clinical assessment of patients’ nutritional status; including age, ethnic, cultural and psychosocial parameters as pertinent to the patients’ condition; plans and manages the patients, family or caregiver and in the classroom setting; develops/implements nutrition care standards, protocols, practice guidelines and quality improvement programs with the health care team and divisional staff.
    Documents clinical care provided in the medical record in compliance with regulatory, local, state, and federal regulations.


    Essential Duties:
  • Upholds Kaiser Permanente’s Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
  • Provides nutrition screening and assessment of patients for appropriate nutrition intervention.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors an ongoing plan of care bases on the screening and assessment of the patient.
    Specific nutritional care plans are based on the patient’s age, nutritional and psychosocial status, diagnosis, cultural background and religious affiliation
  • Consults with and makes recommendations to physicians and associated health care professionals regarding the nutritional care plan for patients who are frequently at high nutritional risk, which may include customized oral feeding, tube feeding, and hyperalimentaion (intravenous nutrition)
  • Educates patients, family, and caregivers regarding nutrition and diets on an individual or group (classes) basis.
    Develops meal plans to meet the members’ lifestyle and socio-economic capabilities.
    Implements nutritional care plans to include follow-up and referrals to government, community and/or other Kaiser Permanente facilities for continuity of nutritional care as required
  • Serves as the nutritional consultant and educates physicians and other health care providers regarding clinical nutrition issues or concerns, policies and procedures.
    Actively participates in multi-disciplinary patient care teams and committees.

  • Participates in the development and implementation of individual and departmental goals and objectives to meet the Service Area and Medical Center strategic direction.

  • Develops and updates diet manuals, educational classes, programs, plans and participates in community health education events.
  • Consistently supports compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser Permanente’s code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the organization, acting with ethics and integrity, reporting non-compliance, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licensure requirements (if applicable) and Kaiser Permanente’s policies and procedures.


    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food/Nutrition or related field
  • Current ADA registration (RD) required
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of mainframe and pc computer systems
  • Demonstrates highly effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communications
  • Must be able to work in a Labor Management Partnership Environment
