Coordinator/Performance Improvement - VA San Diego Healthcare System

Qualifications:

Responsibilities:
- Responsible for independently
monitoring the overall nutrition care provided by Nutrition &
Food Service (N&FS) through the Medical Center and N&FS quality
assessment/performance improvement program process
- Monitors clinical performance
improvement activities and participate in drafting action plans
- May be required to participate
in the development of new programs used to enhance NFS operation
- Works closely with the Medical
Center’s council on performance improvement management
- Serves as the information
technology coordinator and functional expert by maintaining an
understanding and working knowledge of all NFS software
applications developed for the VA
- Responsible for educating new
clinical staff on computer programs and the electronic patient
documentation process
- Serve as a preceptor for
dietetic interns for the IT/PI rotation and provides education
to all staff (clinical and food service) as needed
- The incumbent, on a limited
basis, will provide medical nutrition therapy to veteran
beneficiaries by assessing medical nutrition needs using the
Nutrition Care Model and comprehensive nutrition assessment
skills.
Abilities:
- Assess/reassess nutrition
status and develop MNT care plans using ADA’s nutrition care
process model, provide nutrition education/counseling
- strong teaching skill for a
diverse population of patients and employees, preceptor for
dietetic interns
- Must have extensive computer
experience

Must be a Registered Dietitian with a minimum of 5 years related
clinical and management experience within the prior 7 years.
Master's degree strongly preferred. This position will be
responsible for managing inpatient, outpatient and food services.
Duties include:
- Planning, developing and
coordinating the provision of nutrition services including
professional services, nutrition care services, outpatient
services, inpatient feeding and computer nutrition programs
- Develops, implements and
maintains policies and procedures for area of responsibility
- Acts as a key liaison with
professional staff (physicians, nurse managers, pharmacists, and
other Kaiser staff) to ensure open communications regarding
patient food service and nutrition care services
- Manages and resolves human
resource, labor relations, departmental safety, and risk
management issues for area of responsibility
- Actively participates in
Service Area and departmental quality assurance programs and
ensures quality care of members, patients, and staff by the
continuous monitoring and improvement of related activities
- Collaborates with other Service
Area Assistant Directors to plan, integrate and coordinate
provision of products and services for all customer groups
- Collaborates with the
management team in developing short and long range goals and
objectives for the Food and Nutrition Services Department and
complement the Service are and medical Center Strategic Plan
- Manages activities of assigned
staff to include staffing, recruiting, hiring, orienting,
training, performance evaluation, counseling and disciplining
- Assists in planning and
development of departmental operating and capital budgets,
monitors payroll and non-payroll expenditures for Nutrition
Services
- Ensures on-going compliance of
all services with JCAHO, Title 22 and Federal, State and local
regulatory agencies
- Consistently supports
compliance and the Principles of Responsibility (Kaiser
Permanente's Code of Conduct) by maintaining the privacy and
confidentiality of information, protecting the assets of the
organization, acting and ethics and integrity, reporting
non-compliance and adhering to applicable federal, state and
local laws and regulations, accreditation and license
requirements, and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures.

Nutritionist who might be interested in participating in our Health
Fair scheduled at First United Methodist Church in Mission Valley.
Our focus this year is nutrition with some of the emphasis on
Healthy Snacking for the younger crowd. It is being held on a
Sunday as we have four services and can basically host a captive
audience. All our health fairs have been heavily attended in
the past. I would be willing to purchase any food items as
