Description: Mindful eating is gaining traction in the popular media as well as more conventional health care systems, and for good reason. Mindful eating can be a powerful tool for shifting the way we think about and approach food. However, with increased popularity comes more opportunity for the spirit of mindful eating to be misrepresented. This presentation aims to clarify what mindful eating is versus what it is not, present research on mindful eating interventions and health outcomes, and provide dietitians simple and practical strategies to incorporate into their current practice. In the end, professionals will be able to help their clients engage in more health-supportive behaviors around food.
Learning Objectives: 1. Describe what mindful eating is 2. List 3 ways in which a mindful eating practice supports individual health and well-being 3. Identify 2 strategies dietitians could use to help encourage a mindful eating practice among clients
