Special Feature Film Screening of The Kitchenistas.
The Kitchenistas is a feature documentary film to begin airing on PBS stations across the nation this Spring 2021. The film is about new beginnings and journeys of change through healthy food traditions. What started as an 8-week nutrition education program in National City (CA) for women seeking healthier diets to address a family crisis of obesity, diabetes, and other diet-related issues, is a Latina-led movement to raise the health, wellbeing, and resilience of a community. National City has one of the highest rates of obesity and diabetes in San Diego County and in the state of California. The Kitchenistas, graduates of the program, are out to change that, one healthy meal at a time. The film’s goal is to inspire healthier communities in the region, within California, and across the U.S., especially in lower-income and diverse communities, by placing a spotlight on timely and personal stories that show how small changes can lead to sustained movement toward disease prevention and community health along a continuum of settings.
